राष्ट्रपिता महात्मा गांधी का पूरा नाम मोहनदास करमचंद गांधी था। हम उन्हें प्यार से बापू पुकारते हैं। इनका जन्म 2 अक्टूबर 1869 को गुजरात के पोरबंदर में हुआ। सभी स्कूलों और शासकीय संस्थानों में 2 अक्टूबर को इनकी जयंती मनाई जाती है। उन्हीं के प्रेरणा से हमारा देश 15 अगस्त 1947 को आजाद हुआ।
गांधीजी के पिता करमचंद गांधी राजकोट के दीवान थे। इनकी माता का नाम पुतलीबाई था। वह धार्मिक विचारों वाली थी।
उन्होंने हमेशा सत्य और अहिंसा के लिए आंदोलन चलाए। गांधीजी वकालत की शिक्षा प्राप्त करने के लिए इंग्लैंड भी गए थे। वहां से लौटने के बाद उन्होंने बंबई में वकालत शुरू की। महात्मा गांधी सत्य और अहिंसा के पुजारी थे।
एक बार गांधीजी मुकदमे की पैरवी के लिए दक्षिण अफ्रीका भी गए थे। वह अंग्रेजों द्वारा भारतीयों पर अत्याचार देख बहुत दुखी हुए। उन्होंने डांडी यात्रा भी की।
गांधीजी की 30 जनवरी को प्रार्थना सभा में नाथूराम गोडसे ने गोली मारकर हत्या कर दी। महात्मा गांधी की समाधि राजघाट दिल्ली पर बनी हुई है।

It is on this day that all the Indians around the world commemorate this great hero by attempting to utilize Gandhiji’s teachings in their everyday life. The entire nation still remembers this great hero and savior for everything he has done for us. The president and prime minister of India visit Raj Ghat in New Delhi where Gandhiji was cremated and together the nation prays by singing his favorite prayer “Ragupati Raghav Raja Ram…” We all wish you a Happy Gandhi Jayanti.
